Discover the Château du Champ de Bataille
Take advantage of your stay in Rouen to discover an extraordinary castle, less than forty minutes from your Hotel City Rouen Sud Oissel
Bloody origins
The castle was built by Count Alexandre de Créqui, a member of the anti-absolutist movement of the mid-seventeenth century, the Fronde.
After being defeated by Cardinal Mazarin and banished to his own lands, the Count decided to build himself a palace worthy of the King himself.
This dream will eventually ruin him, and the castle gradually falls into disuse for lack of means. Until today...
Jacques Garcia and the restoration
In 1992, Jacques Garcia bought the building and decided, rather than simply renovating it, to restore it to its original state, the one it had in the 18th century.
Important works are thus launched, as well as the restoration and the re-creation of works of art, etc.
This titanic work led to the registration of the castle as a Historic Monument in 1995.
A sumptuous park
The gardens of the Château du Champ de Bataille are classified as remarkable gardens.
Completely recreated during Jacques Garcia's restoration, they are divided into seven parts supposed to represent the seven degrees of the world: mineral, vegetable, animal, human, consciousness, light and spirit.
A work full of symbolism and sublime!
A royal collection!
The castle hosts no less than three collections of various pieces that belonged to kings and queens of France.
We find there for example chairs having belonged to Louis XV, paintings, sculptures...
You will feel like a king for a moment.
